Our customers often come to us wanting to replace their sash windows, but are unsure how to achieve this. We offer two distinct services to our customers – many other companies offer just one.
- Complete renewal (complete new box frame and double glazed sashes). Our most comprehensive service for sash windows is to remove the old window, and fit a completely new one. Architraves, window boards and more are included to ensure that you are left with the best possible finished product. Our installers have worked in period properties for years, so they know how to work with and around the quirks that older buildings throw at them.
- Sash replacement (new double glazed sashes installed into the existing box frames). This is our most popular service for sash windows as it lets you enjoy all the benefits of double glazing, without quite so much work. When fitting new sashes into your existing box frames, our carpenters will fully draught seal your windows, hang the window on new cords and fit a complete set of ironmongery. On request, we can also repaint the existing timber – just ask.

We hand-make all our windows
We use mortice and tenon joints rather than screws, and you won’t find any large machines for mass production in our workshop. Everything is made personally so we can take care of the details, like matching wood grain and providing a hand painted top coat.
Our installation team fit your windows for you
They are all experienced carpenters, which is important when working on period properties – you can’t guarantee what you will find when an old window is removed. Unexpected findings could hold up the work, but not for us. We make changes to windows in situ so we can fit them as planned.
Quality is second to none
Many European windows are made from pine and are screwed together, or they use substandard jointing methods. Not ours. We use Scandinavian kiln-dried redwood with mortice and tenon joints to provide a superior finish. Redwood is stronger than pine and won’t begin to distort and bend over time.

When it comes to replacing sash windows, we understand there’s a lot to factor in when you’re deciding which company to use for your project – it’s an important decision. To help with any questions you may have, here are some answers to commonly asked questions that we often encounter with our clients. The cost depends on whether you want to replace the entire window including the existing box frame connected to the wall or whether you would like to opt for the cheaper option of replacing the sashes only with new fully-painted double glazed timber sashes. Replacing the entire window usually starts at at £2,000 a window whereas replacing the sashes only starts at around £1,250 a window.
We do offer many of these services within our new sashes only service which involves changing only the sashes themselves. However, we do not change the glass only as a standalone job. For more explanation about this we encourage you to get in touch with us directly.
In the short-term repair is cheaper, but in the long-term replacement is more cost effective because repairs will often need to be re-done over time.
Double-glazed glass is specifically designed to improve thermal efficiency. Our new windows come with new staff and parting bead, which helps reduce any draughts coming through.
