Hardwoods like utile and idigbo are among the best choices for external doors thanks to their strength, durability, and weather resistance. We use utile hardwood as standard, it’s reliable, long-lasting, and well-suited to the UK climate. However, as all our doors are made to order, we’re happy to work with alternative timbers to suit your preferences or match an existing design. We can also offer Accoya as an option.
Lead times depend on the size and complexity of your door and can change weekly. Contact us directly for the latest updates.
Manufacturing starts after the order confirmation is signed, not at deposit stage, and covers the production timeline. Installation is scheduled separately once your door manufacture has been completed. While lead times are a guide, we always aim to meet them as closely as possible.
Our made-to-measure external wooden doors offer excellent insulation. We use high-quality timber and fit each door precisely to minimise heat loss and draughts.
To prevent swelling, it’s important that the door is made from seasoned hardwood, properly sealed with weather-resistant paint or stain, and fitted correctly. Regular maintenance, such as repainting or resealing, also helps protect the wood from absorbing moisture.
Hardwood doors are generally better for external use. They’re more resistant to wear, weather, and impact compared to softwoods. While softwood can be used for external doors, it may require more maintenance and may not last as long in exposed environments.
